This is a great selection of IN-GAME texts beautifully collected, bound and arranged to help immerse yourself in the lore of the land, provinces and alliances available in the video game The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited. Nearly each story is accompanied by beautiful conceptual and original artwork to help deepen your understanding of the text. This is a first in a series of books exploring the lore of the Elder Scrolls Universe. If you are an Elder Scrolls fan, this book is sure to enhance your understanding of Tamriel.

- Kinda Pricey
- I might have picked a slightly different font
- No new lore. All material can be found and read in-game.

Great book for fans

The presentation is beautiful. It's a hardcover with a surface that's almost velvety with a nice emboss design. If you happen to have the Diablo III companions on the folklore, such as The Book of Cain or The Book of Tyrael, this is almost like those in terms of presentation. The pages are designed like old parchment with yellow pages and mould stains.

The content are actually text from the game. You might find the text online as well through sources such as Wikia but that would be troublesome to go through compared to them all collected neatly in this book.

The text are stories and lore from various inhabitants of Tamriel, from all the three warring factions, Aldmeri Dominion, Daggerfall Convenant and Ebonheart. There's also a section with several chapters on creatures.

For every spread, there's either one or two pieces of beautiful artworks that decorate the blocks of text.

It's a great book for fans of Elder Scrolls Online. The only downside is the peculiar choice of font used that affects the legibility.

Interesting and artistically beautiful, not entirely what I expected

For fans of the Elder Scrolls online, this is a must-have gaming supplement.

It's not exactly what I expected.

I thought that it was going to be a guide to the land. Silly me. What it is instead is a series of anecdotes and tales as told by inhabitants of Tamriel.

The book itself is a work of artistry. It has a heavy duty binding, and pages that are faux aged. It is lavishly illustrated, and many pages have small hand-drawn illustrations and illegible ink-ings that add to the feeling that this is a collection of stories or perhaps a personal journal.

The one thing that it is lacking is maps. I was really expecting there to be maps. Even a collection of stories might've had a hand-drawn map or two tucked into it.

Also, truth in lending, while I highly recommend this book. If you're expecting there to be secrets revealed in it, think again. Everything in this book that I read is available in other sources. Sorry! No dark secrets are revealed.

Again if you are a fan of the Elder Scrolls, I highly recommend this book.

Still great but a quarter of the chapters require an access code!

I have been using the various editions of this book to teach Java programming for a number of years. In terms of content the previous editions of this book have been very solid and I would them a 5 star rating. Although this 10th edition continues the tradition of solid content, I cannot rate it above 4 stars because eight chapters (that used to be part of the printed book in the previous edition) are now only accessible online. This is both inconvenient and expensive.

The online material requires an access code that is valid for only a year. This code comes as part of a new copy of the book. If you buy a used copy(for which the code has already been used), or if your code expires you will need to buy another one year code to access those eight chapters.

You get what you pay for...

I think I have bought just about every 'learning Java' book out there, with limited exuberunce, until this book. The advantage this text has over others is to successfully 'weave' the learning of Java as the chapters progress. Other texts do accomplish this to some extent, but I've never seen this achieved to this degree of balance. This book is a heads down, hands on learning device.

Many books provide a single example that gets more and more complex as the chapters, and (hopefully) your skills, progress. Deitel certainly does this (via an Elevator simulation), but also accomplishes this on many different levels with plenty of smaller programs. Each example is explained *line by line* without exception. Additionally, you are provided with example program output right on the page.

I've noticed many 'learning Java' books show you code snippets and little output if any (e.g. Eckel's book, which I love for other reasons), leaving it up to your imagination to put it all together in the context of a complete program.

This text appears to be prepared for the classroom, from its thorough content (25 chapters, 7 appendices, 1400+ pages, cdrom) and available lab and instructor companion books. There is a nice, effective use of color without being distractive like some other texts I've seen.

The negatives are the length, cost and (ouch) the weight. It is one of the heavier books in my collection, for sure!

To summarize, if you are a C programmer looking to quickly jump into Java, or perhaps a genius with a photographic memory, this may not be your first purchase. If you are a newbie, have limited experience with Java, or have been disappointed with other texts, I think you may find this to be the most complete book out there.

Be aware, if your buying the Kindle Edition of this book, there is no Access-Code to the Pearson publisher web-site, normally included in the paper edition, which provides additional video and help information. You can however, buy an Access-Code from the publisher for $30! ... so add that to the cost of your Kindle Edition.

About the Author
A gifted artist and writer, Natalie Babbitt is the award-winning author of the modern classic Tuck Everlasting, The Eyes of the Amaryllis, Kneeknock Rise and many other brilliantly original books for young people. She began her career in 1966 as the illustrator of The Forty-ninth Magician, a collaboration with her husband. When her husband became a college president and no longer had time to collaborate, Babbitt tried her hand at writing. Her first novel, The Search for Delicious, established her gift for writing magical tales with profound meaning. Kneeknock Rise earned her a Newbery Honor Medal, and in 2002, Tuck Everlasting was adapted into a major motion picture. Natalie Babbitt lives in Providence, Rhode Island, and is a grandmother of three.

Bad Exegesis and Eschatology

Wish I could have given it no stars. Some people want to write books purely on the sweat of someone else's brow. It's like cheating on a test. The sad truth is he's regurgitating bad, unsound exegesis and eschatology. Never in all the interaction the Israelites or Jews had with God did God ever return them to the promised land without their repentance. When have the Jews repented and turned to Christ? They haven't and they won't until Christ Jesus' second coming. Most are secular; some are satanic with their belief in the talmud and kaballah. Tel Aviv is the most homosexual friendly city in the world. The verses in Isaiah, Ezekiel and Hosea refer to the millennium NOT to 1947. Until people get the eschatology right, most will fall prey to the antichrist. Know to that the 70 Weeks Prophecy was completed when the Jews rejected Christianity 3 1/2 years after the death of Christ which is when the apostles went to the gentiles. In the entire new testament, there is no corroboration for a 7 year tribulation period only that there will be tribulation or great tribulation. There is no biblical authority anywhere in the Bible for splitting off the last week. These are deceptions propagated by the adversary and carried on by those that are blind. Read the Bible as if you have no preconceived ideas fostered by others. You will then see the truth.

Kindle formatting is horrible!!!! Content interesting.

The biggest problem with this book is that the formatting for the Kindle is horrible!!! There are whole sections that are a mix of pictures and some faint text. Skipped pages. How something like this get's through a review process is unbelievable!!! No quality control at all. The content of the book is very interesting although I wish I had tons of time to fact check everything that is written in a book. You have to hope the author is being factual.

I was really taken in by this nice cover i'm embarassed to say.
It is a few chapters of a thesis (cheap typesetting)that doesn't really go into depth and I feel like I could have got just as much free on the internet.

In each project, his work as a designer of landscape architecture is inseparable from his Buddhist practice. Each becomes a Zen garden, "a special spiritual place where the mind dwells."

This beautiful book, illustrated with more than 400 drawings and color photographs, is the first complete retrospective of Masuno's work to be published in English. It presents 37 major gardens around the world in a wide variety of types and settings: traditional and contemporary, urban and rural, public spaces and private residences, and including temple, office, hotel and campus venues. Masuno achieved fame for his work in Japan, but he is becoming increasingly known internationally, and in 2011 completed his first commission in the United States which is shown here.

Zen Gardens, divided into three chapters, covers: "Traditional Zen Gardens," "Contemporary Zen Gardens" and "Zen Gardens outside Japan." Illustrated with photographs and architectural plans or sketches, each Zen garden design is described and analyzed by author Mira Locher, herself an architect and a scholar well versed in Japanese culture.

Celebrating the accomplishments of a major, world-class designer, Zen Gardens also serves as something of a master class in Japanese garden design and appreciation: how to perceive a Japanese garden, how to understand one, even how to make one yourself. Like one of Masuno's gardens, the book can be a place for contemplation and mindful repose.

About the Author
Mira Locher is an architect and professor who works in both the U.S. and Japan. She holds degrees from Smith College and the University of Pennsylvania. She worked for Team Zoo Atelier Mobile in Japan for seven years before setting up an architectural practice, Kajika Architecture, in partnership with Takayuki Murakami in the U.S. She is an Associate Professor at the College of Architecture & Planning at the University of Utah. She is the author of Traditional Japanese Architecture: An Exploration of Elements and Forms and Super Potato Design: The Complete Works of Takashi Sugimoto: Japan's Leading Interior Designer.

Two parts

The book is divided into two parts. The first part of the book is focused on traditional gardens while the latter deals with more contemporary designs. Some of the work is reminescent of that of Mirei Shigemori but with somewhat greater emphasis on the stone and gravel hardscapes. Many of the 'gardens' are perhaps better described as architectural landscapes dominated by the extensive use of very large boulders and stone walls. This is not a book for those interested in creating their own gardens but is a useful library addition for those with broader interests in modern Japanese garden design.

Exactly what I was looking for!

I purchased this as a gift for my boyfriend, it was exactly as I was expecting it to be. The book is in excellent shape, it is well written, and the pages are absolutely gorgeous. I would recommend this to anyone!

Fabulous book about an ancient art practiced by a modern master

A must have/read for those interested in Japanese Gardens. Masuno creates both traditional and contemporary gardens of great beauty and peace.

I only wish the book was much longer and there were more interviews of and quotes by this master.
