Beyond Inspirational, to action.

I found this book via my hearty devouring of Steve Farber's two previous books and it brought the entire picture in to focus. I can now see the 'greater' direction I'll be headed when I begin to apply the principles of extreme leadership to my life and business. The characters, situations, locations and experiences in these books, real or fictional, oddly mirror much of my own life, and I was able to directly relate them to my own challenges. At times, the characters and concepts were confusing, and I wish I'd retained more of the numerous nuggets, principles and philosophies top of mind, but I'm happy to re-read to refresh my memory.

Now more than ever

Steve Farber's new book, Greater Than Yourself, addresses a deep need in the business world and society at large. It's an incredibly inspiring story that pushes you to go out and find someone to take under your wing and help become 'greater than yourself'. In other words, it's about leaving a legacy of people who have succeeded at least in part because of you. It's mentoring on steroids, if you want it put simply. But more than that, I believe that helping others is the only way we'll all pull out of this economic morass we're in. We've got to start creating more opportunities for others -- so that everyone can benefit. Read this book and get started helping someone right away. You and your business will benefit too -- more than you can imagine.

Principle Centered - Great Book

Truly inspired principle written in allegorical form. Greater Than Yourself proved to be a great starting point for anyone interested in learning to lead well and then multiplying that leadership in order to make a significant cultural shift in any organization or community. The book comes complete with an ending invitation into the community of GTY. It asked you to take the principle presented seriously and apply it in your life. Legendary idea for an up and coming leadership market. The bottom line is this - Greater Than Yourself is the most unique book on leadership I have read in a long time. It reads very easy and even made me pick up my dusty guitar again and try to figure out where I left off 5 years ago. (I said it was an allegory) If leadership is your bent or if you can't figure out why you are pigeon holed at your current place of employment I recommend this book for you.

About the Author

A pioneer of modern palliative care, Cicely Saunders has helped change the way the world cares for the terminally ill. She founded St. Christopher's Hospice in 1967 as the first research and teaching hospice linked with clinical care. Dame Cicely holds many honours including degrees and the Order of Merit and was made a Dame of the British Empire in 1980. In 2001 she received the Conrad N Hilton Humanitarian Prize - the world's largest humanitarian award - of one million dollars for her work originated at St Christopher's Hospice. She is a Founder Trustee and President of a new force in hospice care - The Cicely Saunders Foundation. This unique charity, founded in 2002, seeks to improve the care of people at the end of life wherever they are cared for. David Clark is currently engaged in a number of studies concerned with service evaluation relating to the provision of palliative care and with issues of policy development, the international growth of palliative care and related ethical issues. Superb book

Very good book, a lot of information and the entire description of german army uniform regulations created in 21 september 1915 who introduced german "Bluse" uniform and other modifications.

the book only fails to not have the final part of the original book that describes rank insignia regalia and other badges. I got the third party buying from another source.

About the Author
John McClellan is one of America's most respected guitarists and is the Head of Classical Guitar Studies at Webster University in Saint Louis, Missouri. He has toured throughout Europe, South America, and Australia and has performed with diverse groups of musicians ranging from Tommy Emmanuel to Lucianno Pavarotti. He along with his duo partner, Kirk Hanser (The Hanser-McClellan Guitar Duo) organized the highly successful Guitar Foundation of America International Festival in 1996.

Chet Atkins books 95% there

Volume 2 and its predecessor are obviously labors of love on the parts of the authors and contributors. The reminiscences and anecdotal stuff are fun. If you couldn't tell it from his music, Chet was probably the most wholesome and genuinely niceguy to ever work in the music biz. We get really interesting glimpses into the Nashville scene of the Chet era.

But the transcriptions are what it's all about, and again, the authors have really put in the time and effort to get them right. I definitely recommend that all Chet aspirants should pick up these two volumes. So why only 4 stars? I don't think it would've killed 'em to include chord symbols above the staff. Sure, it's good training to analyze the harmonies on one's own, but for at-a-glance understanding of Chet's arranging approach, chord substitutions, quickly grasping the left-hand chord shapes, and getting a sense of the overall A-B-C structure of the song, it would have been a big help. Maybe in the next edition....

Much better than Vol. 1

Although this book is similar to Vol. 1, in that it contains a lot of pictures and history text, there is a better selection of some of Chet"s more popular instrumentals. There are some chord notations in a few of the tabs, but still no chord diagrams. There are no performance notes concerning some of Chet"s unique fingering techniques. So it is not a teaching book and like Vol. 1 not for the beginner.

I loved the book. The reading was interesting & informative. The pictures were interesting & enjoyable. If the music had had chord symbols I'd have given it 5 stars. Many of us don't have the knowledge or ability to figure out the chords just by looking at the music.

The most helpful tool I've ever gotten for my severe anxiety

Honestly one of the best books I've ever purchased. Very quick and to the point, no frills, which is SO important if you have anxiety, as it can be hard to immerse yourself in something for too long. Exercises are wonderful for self reflection, and perfect for preparing yourself for the right questions - either to yourself, your loved ones, or your therapist.

This truly is a one-size fits all book for ALL anxiety, even the most severe (I have what's arguably the hardest one to deal with since there is no such thing as exposure therapy for it and you can never fully overcome it). It covers everything from social anxiety to phobias of death, from everyday stress to how to deal with loss.

I carry this tiny book with me in my purse on days I might need to pause and gather myself. Good book but buy the paperback not E download version

This book has a lot of good information in it. The on drawback for me was in the Kindle version. The format in which the words are presented are horrible. The sentences are in the middle of each page and a lot of words a broken up and makes it hard reading. Also in the middle there are sometimes 15 to 20 words in a single line (one letter by itself) right down the middle of the page with no seperation of the words. This for me seemed crazy. You had to sit and try to disassemble each word. Then 3 letters of a word would be on one page and 4 or the remaining lettyers of the word would be on the next page. If you buy this book it is good reading and very helpful just get the paperback version

The title of this little book helped Britain to survive the extremes of WWII and keep their mental faculties while going through extreme trauma. It helped me so much and also the many others I have given this book to when they needed a solid anchor to help them through their storms. I am very grateful to Mark Reinecke, PH.D. for writing such a simple yet powerful self improvement volume.

The current edition of this classic is the most complete, referencing the second Fischer-Spassky match -- in Yugoslavia in 1992. Burger has always maintained that the real Bobby was among the most generous and statesmanlike of grandmasters, with this anecdote as an example: In 1964, when Bobby made his first, great tour of the United States following his sweep of the U.S. Championship, Burger was one of thirty players in a "simul" at Mechanics' Institute in San Francisco. On the twelfth move, Fischer resigned after seeing that he had lost a piece. Robert Burger is especially noted for the one game, his win against Bobby Fischer in 1964.

This is a neat book.

The author collected about a hundred (I didn't really count them) of Fischer's games, together with some chess problems and some GM and master games to draw the parallel between Fischer's play and chess great players'. The author grouped the games in endgames, middle-games and openings. Fischer had many outstanding endgames, but also there were a few games he was lucky to draw it because his opponents missed the wins. There too were some games Fischer couldn't win because of lack of experience (the next time around he would win convincingly after reviewing the theory). The part of middle-games showed how much better and stronger-will he was compared to his opponents. About the openings we all know Fischer had a narrow repertoire, however his is deeper than anyone before and after his time. There had been some systems he was not lucky with, but he stuck to them throughout to prove his points. Then by his most important match, the championship match with Spassky, he sprung out the Queen Pawn opening, the Alekhine and some he seldom employed. And he won! There were not many drawn or lost games of Fischer's in this book, but they are instructive. (And it's good for us to know.)

The games in the book were not deeply analyzed but there are many of them. With a computer programs it is easy to improve the analyses. As the title said, "The chess of Bobby Fischer." It's all about the chess skills or the psychology that Fischer experienced during the games. For more of the personal aspect, the book by Gufeld is a good complement to this book.

I consider myself a chess enthusiast and this is a great book that uses Fischer's games to illustrate different kinds of tactical, strategic, and endgame principals so you can apply them to your own games. In my opinion, Fischer is arguably the greatest player of all time and this book gives great insight into his mind and way of thinking. Although I never reached the great heights of the chess world that Fischer did, studying this book greatly improved my chess understanding and play.

Thorough

This book is well written. It has fascinating positions where Fischer may or may not be winning material wise. The downside is that the notation is quite antiquate. You have to remember K for King and Kn for Knight. I prefer N for the latter. The algebraic system is better.
Notation aside, this is a big book with lots of great games. I think you'll be surprised by the authors work.

About the Author
The authors are Herbert Jacobs and James Sagner, PhD, both of whom reside and work in the New York City area and are principals of Bank Credit Training Partners. Sagner teaches MBA and executive education at the Universities of Bridgeport and North Carolina. He is also the Senior Manag�ing Principal of Sagner/Marks, a treasury management consulting firm with offices in White Plains NY. Prior to forming Sagner/Marks in 1992, Sagner led the Consulting Services Division of the First National Bank of Chicago (now J.P. Morgan Chase). He has managed over 250 large-scale studies for companies and non-profit organizations worldwide. He is recognized as an expert in financial management and his clients have included leading insurance companies, securities firms, finance companies, banks, hospitals, manufacturing companies and service organizations. Most recently, he was the author of Essentials of Working Capital Management (Wiley, 2010). He has written six other books in finance and economics. He speaks regularly at professional conferences and has published some fifty papers. Jacobs is a consultant to the banking industry and an Adjunct Professor at New York University, teaching graduate courses in financial statement analysis, term lending and negotiating loan agreements. He was the General Manager of DEPFA Bank from 2000 – 2008. Previously he was Senior Analyst and Manager in Security Valuation Office of N.A.I.C. and a Senior Vice President of HSBC. During his tenure with these institutions, he served on various credit committees and ran credit training programs in the U.S. and Europe. He is a Member of the Board of Directors of College Loan Corporation.

Ok, but not good if you are an existing lender

A little high level if you are already a lender. Thought this book would provide oversight into structuring, leverage, Revolver vs. Term Loans...etc. Not that, but provides some oversight of what a Bank Relationship Manager does on a day-to-day basis.

Terribly written book; riddled with simple English and Math errors.

Terribly written. Simple errors all over the place make this book difficult to follow and understand. It's like the author neglected to hire an editor. Do not buy this book; there are many others on Amazon that are so much better than this.

Very good for people who want to understand commercial credit business

The book is very well written in plain English and in layman's terms. Original case studies by authors are as good as other business cases published by leading business schools. It is my view that buying this book will give you a better value than buying a couple of Harvard cases studies without relevant lectures.
